The high road: Should democrats turn the other cheek?

The High Road: Should democrats turn the other cheek?

I have anything against her.  It’s more that our current president, and those in power that are following / becoming more like him, make me really take another look at both parties.  And I don’t like either one.

There are so many things that, as a Christian, I must take exception to.  But for whatever reason, God has us living in a democracy.  And we have the ability to vote.  But how do we choose, when both sides are so anti-Christian – if not in word then certainly in deed.  The things both sides do should be unacceptable to Christians.  So how do we choose who to vote for?

Does China want to rewrite the Bible?

Does China want to rewrite the Bible?

Does China want to rewrite the Bible?  Persecution watchdog organization China Aid says yes.

To better control the growth and influence of Christianity, the Chinese government plans to incorporate Buddhist scripture and Confucian teachings into the Bible and edit worship songs to include Chinese characteristics, the head of a persecution watchdog has revealed.

If you’re a regular, you’ve seen articles here on both “government and religion” and specifically on “Chinese Religious Regulations”.  It appears that China is about to further strengthen its grip on Christianity in China.  This time, it will be by re-translating the Old Testament and re-write commentaries for the New Testament.  Details are available from The Gospel Herald.

There's always time for God later. Isn't there?

There’s always time for God later. Isn’t there?

“There’s always time for God later.” Have you ever said that?  “Isn’t there?”  But have you ever asked that?  We assume we can get around to God later.  When we have children.  After we’ve advanced in our careers.  After we retire.  After we enjoy our retirement.  But what if we never make it that far?  Or if we forget about God.  What if “later” never comes?

Sure – we’ll get around to God.  Tomorrow.  There’s plenty of time.  Later.  Life’s too short to look for God now.  Before I die.  As long as I’m alive, it’s not too late.  But what if …

China appoints seven Catholic Bishops - did the Pope just sell out underground churches?

China appoints seven Catholic Bishops – did the Pope just sell out underground churches?

I want to close with this passage we read earlier.  It really says a lot about what’s going on when China appoints seven Catholic Bishops.

2Co 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Rule over the earth: protect business from a climate problem that doesn't exist?

Rule over the earth: climate change, lies and money.

Rule over the earth: climate change, lies and money.  Genesis says we are to rule over the earth.  Republicans say there is no climate change problem.  Republicans want to spend $12 Billion to protect Texas oil from climate change.  Does no one see the problem here?  Is someone telling lies?

The party of the conservatives wants to spend money on a problem they claim doesn’t exist.  The party of the conservatives wants to spend money to protect the oil companies equipment from a problem caused by their own product.  And let’s not forget, the party of the conservatives includes the religious right, who are supposed to believe that God told us to take care of His creation.

Is Darwinism really about racism and misogyny?

Is Darwinism really about racism and misogyny?

Have we really sunk so low that we believe all that nonsense about favoured races and gender inequality?  Have we never spent any time with someone of another race?  I’m in the minority where I live.  And I think it’s awesome that I get to know so many people from so many different parts of the world.

The same is true for the gender based questions.  Do we really want those things taught to kids?  Do we want boys to grow up thinking that the girls are inferior?  And do we want the girls to grow up learning that they will always be second-class – behind the guys?

Remember the Sabbath

Remember the Sabbath. Can we remember what we don’t really know?

Remember the Sabbath.  But what is the Sabbath?  I mean the capital “S” Sabbath, not the generic lower case “s” sabbath.  Where did it come from?  What is it for?  What should we do?  And what should we get out of it?
Remember the Sabbath. What if we don’t know what the Sabbath is about? Is there value in knowing the wrong thing? Can we remember what we don’t really know?

Those question stem from a book I’m reading.  This will be of the first of a number of quotes from it.  They appear to be from a Judeo-Christian point of view.  At least the words sound like it.  Some of them.  They put out as assumptions.  And then they lead the reader someplace.  To a conclusion.  However, does the conclusion stay within Christian teaching?  That’s the question we’ll examine here.

Is quantum computing the new Tower of Babel?

Is quantum computing the new Tower of Babel?

Is Quantum computing the new Tower of Babel?  Don’t worry if you’re not sure what a quantum computer is.  Even if you know nothing about quantum computers, this is an interesting question.  I’ll even give you the answer tight up front.  It’s no.  And it’s yes.  No and yes at the same time.  Which, not coincidentally, is a big part of what quantum computers are about.  Up until quantum computing, everything about computers was based on something being on or off.  True or False.  One or zero.  Now – with the wonderful world of quantum computing, it can be yes, no, and maybe – all at the same time.
