Have you heard the saying about something not being worth the paper it’s printed on? In other words, it has little to no value. A news story I read made me wonder, “In your mind, is the Bible worth the paper it’s printed on?”
Let’s have a contest. The First Amendment versus the Greatest Commandment. Which is more important to Christians? Let me rephrase that. Which should be more important? It’s the Greatest Commandment, isn’t it? Or did I miss something?
Does Christianity really say wives submit to your husbands? Well, that depends. The English words say that. Unless we take the time to read the rest of the sentence in which they occur. If we turn to the spirit of the words, no, it doesn’t necessarily say that at all. I ask because I was going to write about something totally different today. That is, until I read the headline – Grace Community Church Leaders under Fire for ‘Excommunicating’ Wife Who Refused to Stay with Abusive Husband. That is, in a word, disgusting! And it’s a misuse of the verse in question. So, in another word, it’s wrong.
I live in Southern California. Part of the original wild west. Add to that the fact that we have Donald Trump, the “law and order” President. And yet, I feel like we’re closer to the wild, wild west of years gone by than we are to anything resembling law and order!
